FF5 Hints

Hints and Tips for people who get stuck in the game.
Rare Espers
To obtain an esper, you must fight them, and if you win, you get to keep them as summons.

Shiva
Go behind the waterfall in the worus castle in the moat. If you find Ice Soldiers or Elf Toads, then you will come to a room with an esper (shiva) on the center platform above the water.

Syldra
In the third world, (looks like a replica of the first) go to the pirates' cave, and on the dock, you can see a scenario with the syldra's spirit, and after that, you can summon it.

Odin
In the third world, go to Jacohl cave. If you went there in the first world, it leads to an area surrounded by mountains (no point in doing so.) In the third world, you end up in the basement of Bal Castle, where you can find Odin.

Shoat
When you have the submarine, search the isery falls, and you can find a spot to get another part of the world map. Walk in the forest until you find shoat in a battle.

Phoenix
In the third world, you can catch a black chocobo at the town of mirage. Fly to the desert area where north mountain is, and at the south western corner of the desert, you will find a tower where you can get Phoenix.

Bahamut
Same as Phoenix, but go to north mountain after you get the first tablet. You will find Bahamut at the top of north mountain.
The Last Magic Spells
Upon entering the town of mirage, there is a magic shop. With the ability to see secret passages by the thief, you will eventually find a hidden room, where you can buy the magic spells from a merchant.
Best Place to Gain EXP
If you're in the first world, you can gain 2AP from the QuadraHarpys with the 'Aquarake' skill (blue magic.) Or you could go to Jacohl Cave and fight the Nut Eaters, which give you 3AP, but watch out for Skull Eaters. If you actually do defeat it (or it escapes) then you get 5AP. You can also try fighting a robot on an archipelago of islands north of Cresent Island, but they are hard to defeat.
In the third world, you can fight Land Corals at the desert between the Phoenix Tower and north mountain. You get 7AP from them. The easiest way to kill them is with the Odin summon.
You can also find magic pots in the Phoenix Tower, and they'll give you 100AP. Make sure you bring lots of elixirs, as that's your only hope in getting something out of them. Because there are only 4 or 5 of them, have jobs that require a lot of AP equipped when you defeat them.
Mischellaneous
Although the drain blade is powerful but misses often. Master the archer job and use X-fight to allow the drain blade to hit. Don't use it on undead enemies, as it only heals them.

To gain lots of money, sail south of the area of the sunken tower and fight the enemies there to get money, but you won't get exp.

When fighting Bahamut, find out when he'll use Megaflare (9999 damage) and before he uses it, summon Carbunkle which will cast wall on the whole party; this reflects the attack.

You might find Iron Giants in the cleft of dimension. If you do, use Odin, and usually, it will kill them both. If there are other enemies, use leviathan. If you have it, equip the fast ring. With one party member alive, you will get 20,000 EXP.
